Algeria: ISO 14001 – Catering
Location: Hassi Messaous, Algeria
Consultant: Andy Ive
Eurest in an international leader in the food and support services industry. Central to the company’s ethos is a commitment to corporate responsibility in terms of its people, sustainable sourcing, wellness and nutrition, environment and community.
In Algeria the company is contracted to supply catering services to all of the major oil and gas companies and within that setting it was decided that the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications were important milestones to be achieved.
IVE was successful in being chosen to manage the process of achieving these certifications.
A workforce of several hundred employees needed to be educated to adopt the company’s philosophy of corporate responsibility.
Starting from scratch, IVE needed to set up a training programme tailored to each level of employee in order to change the outlook of the managers and their teams and raise awareness of the importance of the environment in everything they do.
IVE was able to call upon the experience gained in working on previous projects in Algeria.
Utilising tried and tested methods in both practical implementation and in communication terms that had been effective before, IVE enabled the company to adopt superior waste and water management models and procedures. These were tailored to complement the particular practices of the catering trade and to ultimately enhance the service they provide.
In 2009, Eurest were successfully awarded the ISO certification via a Tunisian certification company.
